Radio Frequency Identification tags is the up and coming technology that was created to replace bar codes. These tags will have product information and will be included in packaging so check-out lines will be a faster process.
This is a technology that is still in the future but the cell phone manufacturers are already working on how to include this in the phones. The thought here is that along with the Internet, consumers will be buying things in new ways. This is how it will work.
Every product that is for sale will contain a RFID tag and that tag stays active after you have paid and gone home. A friend likes what you bought and wants one too. All he does is point his cell phone at the tag, he is connected to the Internet and his order is placed. The product is then shipped to his house. Who knows what else this tag will be connected to in the future of our lives, but till then, the bar codes stay and we must be happy with out camera cell phones.
